Three films scored by Max Richter have been selected for this year’s Cannes Festival.

The Congress, Max and Ari Folman’s (Waltz with Bashir) latest collaboration, opens the Director’s Fortnight. The film combines live action and animated material, and stars Robin Wright and Harvey Keitel. It’s based on the cult sci-fi novel The Futurological Congress by Stanislaw Lem (Solaris).

Last Days on Mars, the debut feature film from Oscar-nominated Irish director Ruairí Robinson, also screens in the Director’s Fortnight. The sci-fi thriller, in which a group of astronaut explorers succumb, one by one, to a mysterious force while collecting specimens on Mars, stars Live Schreiber and Romola Garai.

Finally, Ritesh Batra’s debut directorial feature The Lunchbox, starring Irrfan Khan (Slumdog Millionaire, Life of Pi) tells an intimate and fascinating story centred on a mistaken delivery in Mumbai’s famously efficient lunchbox delivery system. The film premieres at the Critics’ Week.
