Consisting of core members James Brooks, David Ireland and Michael Parker, post-rock trio Appliance set up their own Surveillance label in 1997,  their debut EP lead to sessions on both the John Peel and John Kennedy shows.  The following year they signed to Mute Records and released their stripped down and pulse driven debut album ‘Manual’ which was quickly followed by the darker, more electronic ‘Six Modular Pieces’ and ‘Imperial Metric’.

Their final long player before disbanding was the rounded and melodic ‘Are You Earthed?’ in 2003. Full of emotive song-writing, the album is a beautiful piece of inter-genre discovery and captures perfectly the balance between the electronic and organic aspects of these unique artists.
