Formerly the guitarist in legendary folk/noise outfit Amps For Christ, before forming the genre-defying cult duo Gowns with Ezra Buchla, EMA (aka Erika M Anderson) made her solo debut with Past Life Martyred Saints, an album filled with harmonies and hooks that exist right in those sweet spots between melody and dissonance, making her a significant talent that completely compels the listener.

Past Life Martyred Saints is a record that switches seamlessly between lo-fi 4 track grunge, trashy dance beats and damaged girl group ballads. Shades of Royal Trux, early Cat Power, Nirvana at their most bruised, Patti Smith and more besides can be heard, but the album is anything but a throwback. EMA is very much her own woman.
