Haswell Hecker

Russell Haswell and Florian Hecker are multidisciplinary artists specializing in extreme computer music. Born in England and Germany respectively, the pair first met in Vienna in 1996 and have since performed Computer Music concerts together numerous times at prestigious festivals and venues around the world as well as conducting remix projects of pioneering music groups such as Voice Crack and Popol Vuh.

In 2003 they began a research project together centering around the use of Iannis Xenakis’ UPIC ‘graphic input’ computer music composing system, and a residency at CCMIX Paris, where the UPIC is located. The results were presented to the public as live multi channel electro-acoustic diffusion concerts which used surround sound and laser lighting to create an immersive multi-sensory environment.
