John Roberts is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Los Angeles. He rose to critical acclaim with the release of his debut album “Glass Eights” in 2010, followed by his sophomore full-length “Fences” in 2013, which cemented his position as one of electronic music’s top innovators.
John has been commissioned for remixes by noteworthy labels including Rough Trade, Hyperdub, Young Turks and R&S Records. He has also contributed original compositions and sound design to international luxury brands Prada, Hermès, Moncler and Bugatti, and cultural institutions such as The Guggenheim and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. In 2015, Roberts founded Brunette Editions, a publishing outlet focused on releasing singular, interdisciplinary work unbound by genre and medium. In 2016, he released his third full-length album “Plum,” as well as an accompanying Super 8mm film. Pitchfork has said that “Roberts operates with a sense of personal and artistic style that can make it seem like his peers are just out there peddling 12”s.” In the fall of 2019, he released “Can Thought Exist Without The Body,” an exploration of the relationship between sentient musicians, virtual instruments, adrenal fatigue, and film editing techniques.
Additionally, John is a Co-Founder of The Travel Almanac, a globally renowned print publication which examines temporary habitation from the perspective of artists, filmmakers, and musicians. The magazine has featured conversations with David Lynch, Isabelle Huppert, Richard Prince, Harmony Korine and Collier Schorr, among others.
