Kjetil Nernes is a vocalist, guitarist, songwriter and, for all intents and purposes, the Norwegian rock band Årabrot who formed in 2001 in Haugesund, Norway. The band has since released 9 full-length albums and numerous singles and EP’s. Årabrot won the 2011 Norwegian Grammy Award for Best Metal.
Through the years, Kjetil has resolutely worked on expanding the boundaries of rock music and collaborated with musicians such as Stephen O’ Malley (Sunno))), producer Steve Albini, film music and ambient composer Lustmord, sound artist Andrew Liles (Current 93/Nurse With Wound), theatre director Morten Traavik (Laibach) of Norwegian poet Nils-Christian Moe-Repstad. He also composed live film music to silent films such as Die Nibelungen, Faust, Häxan: Witchcraft Through The Ages and Dr Caligari.
In 2014 Kjetil released the critically acclaimed ”The Gospel”, which was voted Album Of The Year 2016 by The Quietus and nominated for Best Rock and Album Of The Year at the Norwegian Grammies – Spellemannsprisen in 2017.
Journalist and director André Løyning filmed Kjetil Nernes through 2015 and the summer of 2016 in the documentary ”Cocks & Crosses – The Music That Wouldn’t Die” that later premiered at Haugesund International Film Festival- and the Doc’n Roll Film Festival in London.
