Louis Philippe

Louis Philippe is the stage name of singer, songwriter, arranger, producer, BBC correspondent, football journalist, chef and wine buff Philippe Auclair.

Raised in Normandy, France, Louis studied and taught philosophy in Paris before releasing his first EP under the name of The Border Boys in 1985. Splitting from his subsequent band The Arcadians, Louis moved residence to London, England and became one of the major figures in the cult and highly influential indie label él record where he label where he released three albums under his own name.

After the demise of the label, five more albums followed on the Japanese Trattoria label, courtesy of longtime Louis fan Keigo Oyamada (aka Cornelius). Louis has also worked as songwriter and producer for many other artists. In 2004 Louis Philippe released the wonderful album ‘The Wonder Of It All’ the recording of which was funded by his devoted fans or ‘Angels’ as they are credited on the albums sleeve notes. Louis Philippe’s music has been described as “smart, finely tuned optimistic pop with a bitter twist”.
