Resina is the alias of Karolina Rec, a cellist and composer based in Warsaw, Poland.
Resina collaborates with artists of diverse musical genres (incl. the likes of Christina Vantzou, Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch, Bicep, Zamilska or Hubert Zemler). She has composed music for film (feature and shorts) and theatre (incl. contemporary dance). Her pieces were used, among others, in the trailer for Netflix’s “Two Popes” as well as Gucci and Givenchy fashion shows. As a live artist, she has played throughout Europe and Australia, developing into a powerful performer, supporting f.e. Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
Resina’s work is marked by an adventurous, personal language of improvisation and composition. She uses a wide range of sound sources: from experiments with the cello/strings, vocals (including a choir) to electronics and drums, thus blurring the boundaries between seemingly diverse musical genres.
Releasing her self-titled debut LP in 2016 after signing to FatCat’s 130701 imprint, a sophomore LP, ‘Traces’, arrived in July 2018, followed by an EP of remixes from Ben Frost, Abul Mogard, Lotic and Ian William Craig. 2020 saw Resina expand her oeuvre, soundtracking the cult RPG video game,‘Vampire: The Masquerade – Shadows Of New York’, which was compiled as an LP on Gdansk area-based label Coastline Northern Cuts. A new album ‘Speechless’ which includes compositions for a 24-piece choir was released in November 2021 via Fat Cat Records’ 130701.
