Johann Johannsson
Jóhann Jóhannsson (1969–2018) was an Icelandic composer renowned for a distinctive musical language that fused traditional orchestration with contemporary electronic elements. Working across solo recordings, film and interdisciplinary projects, his catalogue includes acclaimed works such as ‘Englabörn’, ‘Virðulegu Forsetar’, ‘IBM 1401, A User’s Manual’, ‘Fordlandia’ and ‘Orphée’. As a film composer, he created celebrated scores for ‘Prisoners’, ‘Sicario’, ‘Arrival’ and ‘The Theory of Everything’, earning Academy Award nominations and a Golden Globe for Best Original Score for his work on ‘Arrival’. His work remains recognised for its emotional depth, textural richness and cinematic scope.
